Okay, so I'm still not over the military jacket trend. Not only did I wear my favorite 3.1 Phillip Lim jacket over the weekend, but I bought another by Whitley Kros at a stylist's sample sale (army green with large gold buttons)! Thankfully, it seems the trend is here for another season and as the weather cools down, I'll be wearing both often.

Thank you so much to all my lovely blogger friends who have presented me with some very sweet awards! I have not forgotten about them. I've gotten so swamped lately, but I'll get to them as soon as possible!

Vampiress for a day

Since I'm one of many women who are obsessed with the Twilight series, I decided to be a vampiress for Halloween, even though the vampires in the books don't really resemble the stereotype at all. The occasion was the ideal opportunity to live out all my vampire fashion fantasies: the Urban Outfitters lattice boots, a velvet black coat with voluminous sleeves and hook-and-eye closures down the front, a short red dress with asymmetrical hem, matching red gloves, and a big sparkly black necklace for good measure. Once I covered my face with white costume paint and added a dab of blood to the corner of my mouth, I felt like I embodied the vampire vibe quite well. The only thing missing? A pair of sharp teeth. Even though I had two pairs, neither of them fit me well and I ended up not using either!

Venturing out in the lattice boots

Because of my own personal vendetta against typical club attire, I make it a mini mission to try and explore other options when going out on the town. I'm still in the process of figuring out an outfit that is comfortable yet fashionable, and sexy without looking skanky or showing too much skin. But for one of my recent nights out, I decided to try my lovely Urban Outfitters lattice boots! They're such a crazy pair of statement shoes that I kept the rest simple--a black silk tank with scattered silver rhinestones, and my fave Citizens of Humanity denim shorts. I know the lattice boots look absolutely outrageous, but the truth is they only take 1-2 minutes to lace up. Another plus? The 2-inch heel means it's totally comfy and perfect for dancing all night in!

Urban Outfitter's Lattice Boots: Yes or No?

These suede lattice boots, exclusive to Urban Outfitters, aren't for everybody, but if you've got the long legs, confidence, and that indescribable je ne sais quoi to pull it off, I'd say go for it! The shoes remind me of Rihanna's totally fierce Balenciaga gladiator boots from a little while back, which she rocked. The boots are a tad elaborate--there's a pattern of geometric cut outs along the sides, metal eyes down the front through which the black laces criss cross, a peep toe, and a low 2-inch heel. Obviously, with shoes this busy you won't want to wear a complicated oufit. I'd suggest your sheerest black tights, denim cut offs, and a simple top in a solid color, perhaps accompanied by a blazer or vest in case of cold weather. No matter what, go for simplicity and keep the focus on your boots. I'm still debating whether or not I should get them...Any thoughts?

Who says a one-piece can't be sexy? Urban Outfitters brings us this halter one-piece swimsuit from Lux in a deep navy hue. A band around your waist emphasizes the waistline you've been whittling down all summer and the halter style top draws attention to toned shoulders and arms. But fear not if you haven't been hitting up the gym and don't have the swimsuit-ready body you'd hoped for. This awesome retro style suit offers full coverage, while the plunging V neckline suggests you're not that innocent...

Street Inspiration: Denim halter vest

I'm really starting to be a fan of vests! I was loitering around NYC's Meatpacking District, an area filled with tall, beautiful model types, when I spotted a girl wearing a great nighttime outfit. She was sashaying across the street in strappy white platforms with skinny white jeans, a thin camisole, and a fitted gray vest, all thrown together as if by accident. She had that Kate Moss aura--effortlessly cool and trendy without trying too hard. After some poking around on the Internet, I found a denim halter vest from Urban Outfitters similar to the one that the mystery girl was rocking. In faded gray with a slim fit, this vest can work in a professional setting (the model pictured wears it with a simple white tank and high-waisted pencil skirt for an office-worthy ensemble) or a nightclub, a la mystery girl's uber cool get-up. Now all I need are those strappy white platforms...

Discount Spotlight: Jeffery Campbell's wedge shoe

This wedge shoe by Jeffrey Campbell, with its beige-colored linen fabric, reminds me a little of the Tashkent by Cheyenne heel. The adorable bow at the ankle and cool cut outs at the sides make for one unique shoe. Since I don't usually favor too-high heels, I like the 1/2 inch wedge heel on this pair that will still give me extra height without sacrificing comfort. This wedge is definitely one of the most fabulous, fashionable, and affordable (a steal at $78) shoes I've come across yet.
