Fall wedding attire

My sister (left, in Arden B dress and vintage shawl) and I attending a gorgeous wedding. I'm wearing a Robert Rodriguez sheath dress that has these raw-edged ruffles and sparkling gemstones down the front, really amazing details that take it from a boring LBD to a totally unique dress. I loved how youthful it was paired with clear strappy sandals and a Stuart Weitzman Swarovski-studded clutch (both snatched up from my sister's wardrobe!).

Loving LaROK's LBD

So even though I was highly anticipating wearing that lovely red Larsen Gray dress to my bday party, when I eventually tried it on at the brand new Revolve boutique in West Hollywood, the fit just wasn't right. While perusing my alternatives, I came across this lil black dress by LaROK which looks so much better on than I ever would have imagined! In textured woven fabric, the sweetheart neckline dips into a sexy V framed by metal chain fringes. The back of the dress scoops low and is also decorated with the stylin' rock-n-roll fringes. And the biggest plus is the great fit: LaROK's streamlined LBD nips in at my waist and hugs the hips for the perfect party dress! Dressed up with the right heels and accessories, I feel like this dress is trendy with a rocker edge and proves that the old adage holds true: you can always fall back on a little black dress for any occasion.

A little black tunic from Mike & Chris

Everywhere I turn, there's always a fresh new take on the LBD vying for my attention. Like this sleeveless tunic by Mike & Chris in cupro twill--whatever that is, it looks soft, satiny, and ultra comfortable. Though the silhouette is fairly simple and loose, the delicately folded pleats and buttons down the front give it a stylish upgrade. Then there's the hem, of course, which instead of being boring and predictable is rather sexy and exposes a hint of leg. Something about the tunic's collar and buttons are slightly military-style, but the feminine hemline and fabric even it out. I envision the tunic with a skinny cinched belt to define your waistline and the perfect gladiator sandals--preferably in a bright, unexpected hue--for a breezy summer look.

The LBD gone organic

Ever since LBDs have emerged as the go-to dress nowadays, I've been on the lookout for a stunner I can wear to an upcoming cocktail gathering. I don't think I have to look any further after discovering this Bombay dress by Larsen Gray, the vision of designers Nora Caliguri (a former Project Runway contestant) and Rachelyn Porter. Technically, the color of the dress is navy, but after studying the picture closely, I'm pretty sure it's almost as dark as black. The tube dress comes with cuffs slipping off your arms, conveying that much desired aura of careless sexiness. And a thick metallic gold strap crosses over your collarbones and draws attention to your neck and shoulders. But best of all, Larsen Gray is known as a chic and eco-friendly brand. I'm even happier knowing this dress is as organic as my daily breakfast cereal!

Leighton's LBD

Looks like all the young celebs are favoring little black dresses nowadays. My favorite Gossip Girl star, Leighton Meester, was spotted at Longchamp's 60th anniversary celebration earlier this week in a form-fitting LBD from BCBG Max Azria. While the high scoop neckline is conservative, Leighton shows off her long (and nicely tanned) legs with a short hemline and hip-hugging silhouette. I combed the BCBG website for her dress, but only came up with this LBD which looks very similar but lacks the sparkly embellishment of Leighton's. The Gossip Girl star shows us how simple and sexy works best with her streamlined LBD, scarlet lips, and black and white Dior pumps.

LC's Elizabeth and James LBD

Everyone's favorite reality star, Lauren Conrad of The Hills, showed up to the Intermix exclusive VH1 Rock Honors VIP party a few days ago in a great going-out dress by Elizabeth and James. The tank dress is enhanced by intricate ribbon and cutout detail, while the raw, frayed neckline and hem add an edgy twist. This LBD's silhouette may appear simple, but I love the vintage-inspired sheer netting and ribbons, which give off such a playful, feminine vibe. While Lauren accessorized with black heels, a Chanel clutch (similar to this Chanel-inspired purse), and a long chain necklace, I'm envisioning the dress with a pair of totally crazy shoes, like these fuschia Christian Louboutin wedges. I'd even add a blazer like this metalized Pencey one with a built-in vest to emphasize that funky, rock-and-roll feel!

The sweet and sexy LBD

To be honest, I really don't need anymore black dresses in my wardrobe. I have enough to last me throughout my twenties, but after spotting this DSquared LBD, I'm thinking it can never hurt to have too many, right? What's so amazing about this dress is its unique double-layer bodice. While you've got a flattering sweetheart neckline (which reminds me a bit of Rach's dress) and twisted bow on top (a sweet feminine touch...take a closer look to fully appreciate it!), the inner layer is a mesh corset for a snug and sexy fit. The empire waistline, slim skirt, and stretchy wool blend fabric seem like they were all designed to make you look your best. I love how the twisted bow and sexy silhouette merge into a sweet, slightly edgy LBD.

Style Inspiration: Ashley Olsen

Ashley Olsen's outfit at the Met's Costume Institute Gala this year exudes sexy minimalist chic. Always the trendsetter, the twin walked the red carpet in a sleek Diane von Furstenberg dress with cut-out keyholes on the side. Combined with fresh-faced makeup and simple hair parted down the middle, Ashley was definitely going for a subtle, understated look last night.

Her look inspired me to search for a similar dress more suited to my lifestyle (unfortunately, I won't be attending the Costume Institute Gala anytime in the near future). I found one lookalike LBD by Black Halo called the Cut-Out Jackie O Dress. With a shorter hemline and curve-hugging body-conscious fit, this dress is perfect for dinner and drinks on the town. But the best part lies in the bare back and side cut-outs for just a hint of raciness!
